maddex

such a sweet sweet boy.

got it.

Sometimes when I have a portrait session, the kids will run wild or refuse to have their picture taken, like this boy.
He refused to sit still long enough for me to take his picture most of the day and of course my stubbornness kicks in and I am just determined to get a good picture in.
And that's just what happened.
Somehow, I managed to get a shot of him looking very calm and serene.
Gotcha :)
You would never know he was running wild most of the day, ha.

strength

I usually like portraits of smiling children but I as I was editing this evening, I was so taken with this little girl. So much strength in her eyes. I usually equate strength in older faces but man, this little girl, she's got it.

Colored Pencil Project

Carly, Thomas and I participated in The Colored Pencil Project on our last full day in Haiti. We gave out colored pencils and paper for the kids to keep. We gave them the assignment to draw a portrait of themselves and then a portrait of their world, whatever that might look like i.e. family, school, house, tent, church etc. Some of the drawings were comical. Some were pretty. Some were heartbreaking. All of them were very telling of their experience this past year since the earthquake. I was grateful to have participated in this project and with kids that we knew already.

Haiti fashion

Haiti fashion is all about wearing your shirts over your head.
Just kidding.
Well, this little boy is the only one I saw wearing his shirt this way, but maybe that means he'll be the next trend-setter at Camp Hope.

cuteness

This little girl was so darn cute she distracted us during the church service at camp hope. Her faces and her attitude were a crack up.
What-a-cutie.

pete.

Meet Pete.
Pete is the nephew of my beautiful friend Annie who just got married this past week.
Pete was my favorite.
He gave me this face every time I took his picture.
To me, this face says, 'seriously?'
I get it though, I can be paparazzi-like with a camera in my hand.

The new, Annie Willis.

childlike faith (Dec 21st)

They say that I can move the mountains
And send them crashing into the sea
They say that I can walk on water
If I would follow and believe
with faith like a child

Sometimes, when I feel miles away
and my eyes can't see your face
I wonder if I've grown to lose the recklessness
I walked in light of you

They say that love can heal the broken
They say that hope can make you see
They say that faith can find a Savior
If you would follow and believe
with faith like a child .
- Jars of Clay

I feel like children have a faith that you can see on their faces.
It's beautiful.

kiddos (Dec 20th)

This is my nephew Collin. These are his new glasses.

Love this kid.
